Dr. Tina Balderrama Kubicek

Dr. Ernestine (Tina) Balderrama Kubicek is an author, speaker, businesswoman and coach in the areas of leadership, branding, effective presentations, career development and professional image. She is owner of Tina B. Kubicek & Associates, LLC. Her corporate experience includes 3M Austin Center where she established the Staffing and Training and Development Departments; 3M Brownwood Human Resources; Exxon Company, USA where she developed the training and publicity for their nationwide telecommunications network; and GTE of the Southwest (Verizon) where she was a Communication Advisor to business customers in Texas and Oklahoma. She is former Professional Development Director for the Texas Association of REALTORS®, and served as the International Liaison to Mexico promoting opportunities for international business.

In 1972, Tina applied for membership in the Brownwood GTE Toastmasters Club and was informed by Toastmasters International (TI), “Because you are a woman you can’t be a Toastmaster.” Unlike some other women, she refused to use a man’s name to secure membership and served as Club Secretary in1972 without credentialed membership. In January 1973, after many letters between GTE and TI, she received a certificate of membership. Tina was elected Educational Vice President and became the first woman to become a Toastmaster using her own name. That year she was Keynote Speaker at the District Convention. A Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM), Dr. Balderrama Kubicek received The Toastmasters International “Lifetime Achievement Award” in April, 2022. October 2022, The Strategic Alliance for Leadership and Social Action (SALSA) presented her the Mexicana Trailblazers of Brownwood Award for being the first Hispanic woman to earn a Ph.D. degree from Brownwood, the first Hispanic woman author from Brownwood, and the first woman to become a Toastmaster using her own name.

Dr. Kubicek has a Masters and Ph.D. from The University of Texas at Austin and is a member of KAPPA DELTA PI and PHI KAPPA PHI Honor Societies. She has a B.S. degree from Howard Payne University. Dr. Kubicek served as an appointed Commissioner to the City of Austin Downtown Commission where she was elected Vice Chair and Secretary. She is a former chair of the Women’s Chamber of Commerce of Texas. She is a graduate of Leadership Austin, Leadership Texas, and Leadership America. Dr. Kubicek has served on the Boards of Leadership Austin, Women & Their Work, Lone Star Girl Scout Council and The Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce. She was a 2013 nominee for the Austin Business Journal’s Profiles in Power Women of Influence. She is a member of The National Speakers Association and Toastmasters International.

Dr. Kubicek is the author of Postcards to Women a book of original quotes learned from life’s lessons. She is also author of Subliminal Branding: Make It Work for You™: 7 Tips for Branding Success and A Blueprint for Leadership: Technology and the Human Factor which are booklets in her “Life’s Lessons for Leadership Series.” Her philosophy is to “write your life’s resume from the heart and not based upon the pocketbook” which motivates individuals to reach for their dreams. She believes, “We all have the power to change our lives for the better by doing what we love to do rather than by how much money we can make. This belief motivates her every endeavor to help individuals reach their highest potential.

A seasoned speaker and presenter, she holds the Distinguished Toastmaster designation—an honor achieved by fewer than 1% of Toastmasters International members—and has presented at state, national, and international conferences.
